He Is Still On Duty, NY 40th, Mozart Regiment
At the base of Little Round Top, near the Devil's Den this Yankee Sentinel remains on watch for the advancing Rebel forces. This is one of the most interesting monuments of Gettysburg National Military Park. The solider blends in so well with the huge rocks of this area that it is possible to overlook the monument among the boulders. It was those very same boulders that protected the defensive force during the battle.
The monument was erected by the New York, 40th Mozart Regiment, who participated in the defense of Little Round Top on July 2, 1863 in the Valley of Death.
